When retrobrighting retro consoles and computers, it’s important to wear gloves and eye protection. It’s also important to work in a well-ventilated area. Additionally, it’s important to avoid inhaling any fumes that may be produced during the process.

What is Retrobrighting?

Retrobrighting is a process used to restore yellowed plastic back to its original colour. It involves using hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals to remove the yellowing from the plastic.

How Does Retrobrighting Work?

The process of retrobrighting involves applying a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals to the yellowed plastic. The mixture is then exposed to UV light, which activates the hydrogen peroxide and causes it to break down into water and oxygen. This process removes the yellowing from the plastic.

Different Ways of Retrobrighting

There are several ways to retrobrite retro consoles and computers. One method is to use direct sunlight alone. Another method is to use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals. There are also commercial products available that can be used for retrobrighting.

Time it Takes

The time it takes to retrobright retro consoles and computers depends on several factors, including the severity of the yellowing, the method used, and the amount of UV light exposure.

I do not retrobright every computer or console that I have. But when it is particularly yellowed I use the U.V. in a container method as shown on a number of my videos including my Atari 400, Commodore Amiga and Atari ST.
