In this video we will be doing a Retro Restore on the classic Amiga 500 that I picked up on eBay. I chose this one because as you can see it is very yellowed and dirty, and there’s some stains which should be fun to remove and a bit of retrobrighting. If I bought a clean looking one, it would be a boring video innit 🙂

Amiga 500 History
The Amiga 500 was announced by Commodore at the January 1987 winter Consumer Electronics Show – at the same time as the high-end Amiga 2000. It was initially available in the Netherlands in April 1987, then the rest of Europe in May. In North America and the UK it was released in October 1987 with a US$699/£499 list price.
The Amiga 500 can be considered as a cost-reduced version of the original Amiga 1000 computer, which was released two years earlier in 19852. The A1000 was an attractive, two-piece desktop model, while the A500 is a smaller, one-piece “wedge”, but still comparable in operation and capability.
The Amiga 500 contains the same Motorola 68000 as the Amiga 1000, as well as the same graphics and sound coprocessors. It has a clock speed of 7.14 MHz2. The Amiga 500 has a resolution of up to 640×512 pixels with up to 32 colors on screen from a palette of 4096 colors.
Here are some popular games for Amiga 500 with a brief description:
- Lemmings – A puzzle-platformer game where you guide a group of lemmings through various obstacles to reach their destination.
- Speedball II – A futuristic sports game that combines elements of handball and ice hockey.
- Sensible Soccer – A soccer game that features fast-paced gameplay and a top-down view of the field.
- The Secret of Monkey Island – An adventure game that follows the story of Guybrush Threepwood as he tries to become a pirate and rescue his love interest from an evil pirate.
- Cannon Fodder – A war-themed action game where you control a group of soldiers through various missions.
